The U.S. Marshals Service announced the conclusion of Operation Meridian, a month-long, multi-agency effort that located and recovered 79 reported missing and endangered children across Ohio, ranging in age from 6 to 17. Officials described it as the largest missing child operation in the state’s history.
The operation ran throughout August and addressed cases tied to suspected trafficking, physical and emotional abuse, neglect, and runaway situations. Investigators coordinated across federal, state, and local lines, following leads that in some cases extended as far as Georgia and Michigan.
In one case, U.S. Marshals in Southern Ohio worked with the Columbus Police Department on a long-term missing persons case involving two sisters who had been reported missing in 2024 and again in 2026. Investigators located the younger sister concealed in a hidden space inside a home in Lockbourne; her mother was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Information gathered during that recovery led officers to the second sister later the same day at a Columbus restaurant.
In another case, a Toledo teenager previously identified as a trafficking victim was reported missing on August 18. The U.S. Marshals’ SPEAR Unit and Toledo Police tracked leads into Michigan before locating the teenager, along with an adult male, at a Toledo address. She was taken for medical evaluation, and local law enforcement is investigating the man’s involvement.
Operation Meridian involved close to 30 law enforcement agencies, including Cincinnati Police Department, Columbus Division of Police, Delaware County Sheriff, Franklin County Sheriff, Hamilton County Sheriff, Ohio BCI, and Springfield Police Division. Officials said the operation’s success reflected sustained coordination across jurisdictions in service of a single goal: getting vulnerable children home safely.
